France have reconciled with fans, says Giroud

Olivier Giroud believes France have gone a long way to reconciling with disillusioned fans after poor showings in recent major tournaments.

France s 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign was blighted by reports of squad disharmony under the stewardship of Raymond Domenech, as the nation crashed out of the group stages with just one point following a woeful campaign.

Two years later, France were defeated in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2012 by eventual winners Spain, having won just one of their four games amid further rumours of divisions in the squad.

That is in stark contrast to the French team that won the 1998 World Cup on home soil and Euro 2000.

And while Arsenal forward Giroud believes it is not right to dwell on past glories, he feels the players have the back…

Here are the five things we learned from a mesmerizing match in Berlin:

Germany in need of some soul searching

Real Madrid target Mauro Icardi for a lower price

Real Madrid are preparing for a big summer spree. Zinedine Zidane is back at the helm of the squad and he will want to make big changes in the upcoming transfer window after a disappointing season in his absence. That is why, according to AS, Real Madrid are preparing to land Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan before the start of the next season!

The Spanish media outlet claims Real Madrid are eager to sign the striker for a lower price than expected and capitalize on player s current situation. Icardi s dispute with Luciano Spalletti could see Icardi leave for less than what is his release clause. In his current contract, the clause sits at £94m, but it would be hard for Inter to truly get that sum from any club.

That is why Los Blancos would want to get him for …

Liverpool striker Firmino ruled out with ´serious´ hamstring injury

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Roberto Firmino has sustained a serious hamstring injury and is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Firmino was introduced at half-time in the Reds 2-0 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday, but was forced off in the 78th minute.

When the striker will return to action is not clear, but Klopp expects the Brazil international to be out for at least four weeks.

Bobby is not good news with a serious hamstring injury, really unfortunate, Klopp told Liverpool s official website.  We don’t know exactly how long he will be out, but it will be not now after the international break directly. We have to work on that.

Klopp reiterated the significance of the 30-year-old s absence in his p…

Anelka thanks Chelsea faithful

Nicolas Anelka has issued a statement thanking Chelsea fans for supporting him throughout his four-year tenure at the club.

The 32-year-old has joined Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua, bringing to a close a lengthy career in Europe that started at Paris Saint-Germain in his teenage years and saw the striker play for Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Fenerbahce among others.

Along the way, Anelka won the Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea, the Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2000 with France. In 2008/09 he finished top scorer in the Premier League.

But a regime change at Chelsea with the appointment of coach Andre Villas-Boas edged Anelka out of the team and despite a brief flirtation with Major League Soccer, the Frenchman opted t…

Casillas confident of Kaka stay

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is confident Kaka will not leave the La Liga leaders during the January transfer window.

The Brazil international has been struggling to secure regular starts under coach Jose Mourinho and has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, with cashed-up Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain said to be leading the chase for his signature.

But Real captain Casillas has dismissed reports that the former AC Milan attacker is heading for the exit door.

Kaka has told me that he is not leaving, he is going to stay here with us, Casillas revealed on his official Facebook page under a photo of the duo and reserve goalkeeper Tomas Mejias.

Kaka joined Real from Milan before the 2009/10 campaign for a then-world record …

The 64-year-old, who took charge in November 2013, had previously stated that an agreement was in place over a deal that would see him stay on until after the 2018 World Cup.

And O Neill, speaking after announcing his squad for the qualifying matches against Georgia and Moldova next month, says he and his backroom staff have now signed new terms with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
