Ronaldo s achievements in the competition will be recognised during the Champions League 2024-25 draw, which will take place in Monaco on Thursday.

Over the course of 18 years, Ronaldo netted 140 goals in 183 Champions League appearances, 11 more than Lionel Messi in second place, and 46 clear of Robert Lewandowski in third.

Brazil, Colombia and Japan will rival Australia and New Zealand for the right to host the 2023 Women s World Cup.

A joint bid from Football Federation Australia (FFA) and New Zealand Football (NZF) for the first 32-team edition of the competition was announced in Melbourne earlier on Friday.

FIFA has now confirmed that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Colombian Football Federation (FCF) and Japan Football Association (JFA) all submitted bids prior to the December 13 deadline.

A proposed joint bid from North and South Korea was not included in the final shortlist, with the Korea Football Association (KFA) having withdrawn their application, citing diplomatic tension between the two countries.

Juventus beat Lazio to the Coppa Italia in the 2015 final and on Wednesday they meet at the Stadio Olimpico again, this time in the quarter-final stage.

Lazio took the lead in last May s final at their home stadium but succumbed to a 2-1 defeat after extra time with Alessandro Matri s 97th-minute strike earning what would be the first part of a domestic double in Massimiliano Allegri s maiden Juventus campaign.

The win ended Juve s 20-year wait for a 10th Coppa Italia title and made them the competition s most successful club.

Callum McGregor has confirmed his retirement from international following Scotland s disappointing showing at Euro 2024.

McGregor, who started all three of Scotland s group games in Germany, made 63 appearances across a seven-year career, netting three goals.

The 31-year-old helped the Tartan Army qualify for Euro 2020 their first major tournament since 1998 scoring in a 3-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group fixture.

McGregor ends his international career with the 14th-most appearances for Scotland, with only John McGinn (69) and Andy Robertson (74) playing more from their Euro 2024 squad.
