Billionaire whose family trust owns Spurs denies insider trading – reports

British billionaire Joe Lewis – whose family trust owns Tottenham – has been bailed by a judge in New York after pleading not guilty to charges of giving insider trading tips, according to reports.

The 86-year-old, who faces 16 counts of securities fraud and three counts of conspiracy, appeared at an arraignment hearing at Manhattan Federal Court on Wednesday.

After entering a not guilty plea Lewis was released on a bail of 300 million US dollars (£230m), reportedly secured by a yacht and private aircraft equivalent to that amount.

Lewis, and two of his pilots who are also facing charges, must remain in the United States.

Prosecutors say Lewis, who was arrested on Wednesday morning, is alleged to have used his access to confidential information to pr…

Senegal international Pape Souare has joined Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee, subject to receiving a work permit.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has bolstered his ranks with the signing of Pape Souare from Lille on a three-and-a-half-year deal, subject to a work permit.

The clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee for his services, with the Senegal left-back having travelled to London from the Africa Cup of Nations to sign terms before flying home.

He will return to begin training with Palace, who sit 13th in the Premier League, in the coming days.

Insua backs Liverpool to maintain dominance after Thiago arrival

Liverpool were the best team last year in the world, LA Galaxy full-back Insua told Stats Perform News. They kept almost the same team.

Now with Thiago and [Diogo] Jota, they want to be the best team in the world this year. It s a big signing for them. Thiago was showing at Bayern that he is almost the best midfielder in the world.

It s really important for Liverpool to keep growing and to keep the level they were at last season. Of course, I think they will maintain the same level this season.

After being crowned European champions in 2018-19, Liverpool finally ended their Premier League drought last term – the club s first league title since 1990.

Liverpool cruised to top-flight glory, with full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold i…

Varane can see similarities between Solskjaer and Zidane

Raphael Varane learned a lot from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has compared the recently departed Manchester United boss to ex-Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane.

France international Varane joined United from Madrid in August and spent three months working under Solskjaer before the Norwegian was dismissed by the Red Devils two weeks ago.

Solskjaer left Old Trafford having failed to win any silverware in his three years at the helm, which is in stark contrast to the 11 trophies lifted by Zidane across two spells as Madrid boss, with Varane a key player under his compatriot.

Despite appearing just nine times for new club United prior to Solskjaer s exit in what has been an injury-plagued start to his Old Trafford tenure, Varane was impressed by Solskjaer s coa…

Bristol City Women 0-4 Man City Women: Hosts relegated as Fowler double inspires WSL leaders

Mary Fowler scored twice to set WSL leaders Manchester City on their way to a 4-0 rout of Bristol City, who suffered relegation as a result, on Sunday.

With Arsenal having drawn with Everton earlier in the day, Man City knew a victory would be enough to take the title race down to two teams.

That victory duly arrived in emphatic fashion, with all four of Man City s goals arriving in the second half.

Fowler s fantastic strike opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, with the Australia international doubling her tally soon after, paving the way for an Amy Rodgers own goal and Alex Greenwood s late header to seal a huge victory.

Time to look at the stats from that all-important victory!

Reja: Napoli, Lazio could be challengers

Edy Reja believes Lazio and Napoli have the quality to fight for the Italian league title this season.

Reja, who coached Lazio from 2010 until 2012, and Napoli from 2005 until 2009, sees Juventus as heavy favourites to win the Scudetto, but feels his two former teams could take advantage if the Turin giants slip up.

Lazio and Napoli got disappointing results at the weekend, but I believe that both teams have what it takes to challenge for the Scudetto, Reja told La Gazzetta dello Sport. Juventus are superior to any other team, but they also play Champions League football and that could affect them in Serie A.

Lazio and Napoli are the two first teams to possibly take advantage of it if Juventus slip up.

Godin ´always wanted´ Atletico stay

Diego Godin said he had no hesitation in signing a new contract with Atletico Madrid despite reported from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Uruguay captain last week agreed a new four-year deal with Atletico to put an end to speculation over his future.

Godin has became a key player at the heart of the Atleti defence following his move from Liga rivals Villarreal back in 2010 and his assured performances were said to have attracted interest from Premier League rivals City and Chelsea, amongst others.

The 29-year-old stressed that he had no interest in leaving Vicente Calderon, stating that it was an easy decision to remain with Diego Simeone s side.

I am very happy to have renewed with the Athletic. he said at a press conference on Wed…

Walter Mazzarri leaving Watford job

Walter Mazzarri is leaving his role as Watford head coach at the end of the season.

Watford have confirmed the 55-year-old s time in charge of the club will come to an end after their final Premier League game of the season at home to Manchester City on Sunday.

Mazzarri, formerly head coach of Napoli and Inter, signed a three-year contract when he took charge in July 2016 but will now depart after only one season in the job.

After the board discussed with Walter Mazzarri the club s future goals and aspirations, it was decided he will be stepping down from his position as the club s head coach after the final game of the 2016-17 season, read a statement from Watford chairman Scott Duxbury on Wednesday.

We thank Walter and his staff for the contribution…

Barcelona v Sevilla: Messi striving to save Barca´s season as chaos reigns

It is not normally a mood he has to strive too hard to locate but, after Barcelona s restorative 2-0 win over Sevilla at the weekend, Gerard Pique was bullish.

On Wednesday, Ronald Koeman s side will seek to overturn the same deficit in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against the Andalusian club.

The chastening 4-1 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, where Pique s return from three months out with a knee injury was entirely ruined by him having to try to mark Kylian Mbappe, left Barca s hopes of averting a second trophy-less season hanging by a thread.

But goals from Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi made it back-to-back LaLiga wins last time out, while there is the prospect of one or both of the Madrid clubs dropping points when they mee…
