Guardiola has ´not decided anything´ amid England job speculation

Pep Guardiola has played down expectations that he has decided to take over as the next permanent England manager.

The 53-year-old would be a popular choice for the job, given the success that has followed him at every club since becoming a manager.

Guardiola has won six Premier League titles at City, including each of the last four, while he won three league titles each with Bayern Munich and Barcelona. He is also a three-time Champions League winner and 10-time domestic cup winner as a manager.

But when asked about the England job amid reports claiming his next step had been decided, he was not drawn on any speculation.

It s not true. I m Manchester City manager, he told Che Tempo Che Fa, as per transfer football expert Fabrizio Romano.

´Pedri will make the difference 100 per cent´ – Barcelona´s Golden Boy tipped as World Cup star for

Pedri has been hailed as the Iniesta, the Xavi of the Spain team that will go after World Cup glory in Qatar.

The praise came from former Liverpool and Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique, a player who was crowded out of the Spain squad by the country s last golden generation.

Jose Enrique s peak playing years coincided with Spain s most dominant period in international football, and although he does not consider Luis Enrique s squad quite at that same level, the likes of Barcelona youngster Pedri make him optimistic for the World Cup.

Spain won Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Euro 2012 in a sensational period of dominance. They have not won a major tournament since, but a burgeoning group of young talent is emerging once again, with 19-year…

Bitesize Prediction: Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar – 28/12/23

Market: Melbourne City win

Odds: 7/10 @

Hoping to break into the top-six on Thursday morning, Melbourne City will welcome Brisbane to AAMI Park for an A-League showdown.

Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne might have made real history last season as they got their hands on another A-League crown, Aurelio Vidmar’s side have struggled to find a similar level this time around. Watching their AFC Champions League adventure come to an abrupt end earlier in the month, the Australian giants have now had to settle for a single point in all of their previous three appearances across all competitions. Opening up Thursday’s showdown sat outside the top-half and with the feel of a squad seeking a recent boost, Melbourne have also gained a reputation for their rathe…

Prediction: USA vs Uruguay

Best odds: 89/50

Bookmaker:

Facing a potential early Copa America exit, the USA will conclude group play on Monday by hosting Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Panama, the host nation sits just above them in second place on goal difference. Meanwhile, La Celeste are almost assured of a quarterfinal spot after their 5-0 thrashing of Bolivia.

The return of Gregg Berhalter as head coach of the American team has brought inconsistency, as the Yanks now face a challenging path to the Copa America quarterfinals. Their recent 2-1 defeat marked the first time they failed to win a Copa America match after scoring the opener since a 4-1 loss to Argentina in 2007.

In 2024, the team has yet to suffer consecutive defeats, f…

Campana not concerned by competing with Messi for Inter Miami records

Leonardo Campana does not concern himself with competing with team-mate Lionel Messi when it comes to Inter Miami records.

Campana has netted 25 goals during his time with Miami, while Messi – who joined the club midway through 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain – has scored 22 times.

Only Gonzalo Higuain (29), has scored more goals than Campana and Messi for the Herons in the club’s short history.

Campana, though, shrugged off the suggestion that he is in competition with Messi to become Miami’s record goalscorer.

No, I don t really pay it much attention,” he said.

“I just try to enjoy it when it s my turn to play. Obviously, if I could manage it, it would be incredible, but we all know that Leo [Messi] is coming up behind me ver…

Premier League rejects Man City request to delay 2025-26 season start

The Premier League has rejected a request from Manchester City to delay the start to their 2025-26 campaign to allow for more recovery time after the Club World Cup.

As 2022-23 Champions League winners, City are one of two English clubs – alongside Chelsea – to have secured a spot at FIFA s first 32-team Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States next year.

The tournament s expanded format has proven extremely controversial, provoking widespread criticism for denying players rest time during the off-season.

Players union Fifpro has started legal proceedings against FIFA over the scheduling of the tournament, claiming the fixture schedule has become unworkable .

The Club World Cup is set to run from June 15 to July 13, with players involve…

Qatar sole host of 2022 World Cup

The President of the United Arab Emirates Football Association has insisted Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup alone.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter had said it was possible Qatar could share some of the tournament s matches with other countries in the region, but UAE Football boss Mohamed Khalfan al-Rumaithi said he expected all games to be held in the host nation.

Nobody came out from Qatar and said we will do that. We are happy for Qatar. Qatar delivered a good file and I think they will go solo for it. They will go solo and they can do it solo, al-Rumaithi told Reuters.

Qatar won it by their file and it was fair competition.

Today I read in the news that Mr Blatter said that only the Qataris can decide if the region want to participate in this. But …

Douglas gives up Euro 2012 dream

Twente defender Douglas has decided against applying to FIFA for a special dispensation to represent the Netherlands at Euro 2012.

The Brazilian-born central defender received his Dutch passport in November and was hoping to receive clearance from world football’s governing body to be eligible for selection for Bert van Marwijk s side.

But the 24-year-old and his agent have decided not to apply because they feel he would not be granted permission to represent his adopted country.

FIFA regulations state that a passport is not enough for a player to be able to represent his new country, they must also have lived there for at least five years and the former Joinville man has only resided in the Netherlands since the middle of 2007.

Ultimately, we conclud…
